Holiday Travel Tips

Holiday Travel TipsThe holidays can be the most chaotic and troublesome days to travel, with everyone and their mother trying to get somewhere fast, and often last minute. But there are some tips that will help ensure your holiday travel runs as smooth as possible.

First, book your trip well ahead of time. The closer you get to the holidays, the less choice you have and the more expensive tickets get. Generally speaking, at least two months ahead of time is best.

Second, remember that security is doubly tight over the holidays, so follow all the rules: No sharp objects in your carry on, carry an empty water bottle through security to fill up on the other side, put blankets, pillows etc in their own bag, have your jacket and shoes off when you get to the x-ray machine, have your laptop out of the bag and wear as little jewelry as possible so avoid setting off the metal detectors. Follow all these rules and you should be good to go.

Third, pack conservatively and make sure you remain organized. Keep your luggage strictly at or under the weight limit and don't take anything you don't have to onto the plane.

Fourth, and most importantly, cut yourself and other people some slack. Don't get angry at the counter person because you missed your flight or it got cancelled; they can't do anything but try and help you to the best of their ability. Ask to talk to a manager or complain to those higher up if you feel like you need to.
