Ah, it's finally come, the long-awaited vacation that you've been looking forward to; however, it's also come time to pack, and that's where things can get messy. Too many people stress over what to bring and how much when they go on vacation, and it's especially difficult for those who aren't terribly organized to begin with.
However, there are some ways that even the most organized or unorganized traveler can make sure packing for a vacation isn't stressful; from making sure you put an identifying mark on your bag to ensuring you pack more than one pair of socks.
First off, make a thorough list of all the things you'll need. If you're going to the tropics, do some research and see if it's hot and humid, mild and muggy, or the dry season. If you're going to the Alps, make sure you pack t-shirts and shorts in addition to really warm clothing. It is little things like these that can make a huge difference; also, a list keeps you organized as you check off each item and ensures you don't forget anything necessary.
Two, organize your small items into bags, e.g. toiletries in one, hairbrush, bands and clips in another, first aid stuff in yet another and so forth. This makes it easy to find what you need and facilitates getting through airport checkpoints, cruise line security and other such things.
Three, mark your luggage with something like a brightly colored ribbon, sticker or other elements that will make it immediately recognizable to you. This is to ensure you can find it, or describe it to someone in the event it is lost. This holds true whether you're flying or taking a cruise for your vacation.
